Jack (JB) Maeshiro

Article:
On December 15,2005, the Culver City Athletic Program, held its annual football banquet and awards presentation.
This year, the Culver City Varsity Football Team was Co-Western League Champions. They were eliminated in the CIF Playoffs by Valencia High School, in a hard fought contest.
The award of the Most Valuable Player on the Culver City Football Team was earned by Jack (JB) Maeshiro.
At the awards presentation, JB, was also acknowledged for being selected as a first team, All Ocean League outside linebacker. He was also runner up to All Ocean League Defensive Player of the Year.
Accompanying JB at the banquet was his mother and best friend, Susan Fujimoto (Fuj), his Aunt, Sandy Maeshiro, his grandfather, Jackson Maeshiro and his cousin, Khi-min Jung. They were both proud and stunned when JB also was awarded a certificate for scholastic achievement. (Coach Salter)
JB is a progeny of a longline of outstanding athletes. His grandfather, Kenyu (Jackson) Maeshiro was an accomplished, tough pugilist who hailed from the Kakaako Valley Fight Club in Oahu. For those Asian/Pacific Islander boxing buffs, they can tell you that the Kakaako Valley Gym was to Asian/Pacific Islander boxers, what the Kroc Gym in Detroit was to the African American fighters.
JB's father, the late, Big Jack Maeshiro, was also an outstanding baseball and football player back in the 70's, at Fairfax High School. His athletic ability and aptitude earned him a baseball scholarship at the University of Hawaii. An injury to his ;pitching arm cut his career short, but he always maintained his passion for sports that he shared and passed on to his son, JB.
More current, JB has two cousins, Yuriko and Khi-Min Jung who both played college basketball. Yuriko played for UC Irvine, and Khi-Min played for both Cal State Los Angeles and Cal State Monterrey. They are now both coaching, Yuriko at Queensborough Community College in Queens, New York and Khi-Min at Hawthorne High School.
JB is currently a Senior at Culver City High School, he is not sure on his plans after high school, he does however want to continue to participate in sports and is currently a member of the Culver City Varsity Baseball Team and in his spare time, plays basketball for the Tiger YB team which is coached by his cousin, Khi-Min.
Congrats - JB!
